Get to know James

What motivates you everyday?

My motivations are two: personal and career. On the personal side, it is to provide the best I can for my family. Career motivation is to share my knowledge and skills to help my clients have the best life experience and be happy.

If you could instantly master one skill, what would it be?

MARKETING! I struggle getting in front of enough people.

What is a career "low point" that actually set you up for success?

In 2009, I was laid off at Ameriprise due to the Credit Crisis caused by subprime mortgages. It forced me to get back to relying on my strengths and talent to market myself in an industry that had hit the skids. I came back strong and created multiple revenue sources to protect my future.

What piece of advice would you give your younger self?

Don't ever leave your practice! I took a recommendation to focus on leadership and management and sold my first practice. It wasn't required, but it was highly recommended. A practice provides a solid base and leverage as you can grow it or maintain it, because I am in control!

Fun Fact

I played defensive back in high school for one season. My Dad was shocked because he always told people I had no future in organized sports, measuring my speed not with a stopwatch but with a sundial.
